We test our dogs through Paw Prints Genetics

Genetic testing is very important in breeding dogs
to ensure healthy puppies.

There are 4 main corgi related diseases that are most common. They are all recessive. Meaning that for a puppy to contract the disease, both parents must have a copy( be tested positive.)
Appx. 25 % of puppies will be positive with 2 affected parents.

It is perfectly fine for 1 parent to be a carrier, positive, just not both parents.
This is why testing of parent dogs is so crucial and why we have tested our dogs for over 140 diseases.

Here are the 4 main diseases with links for more information on the 4 main corgi related diseases

Von Willebrand Disease (VWD1)
This is a bleeding disorder
This is a recessive disease
( requiring 2 copies) (1 from each parent,)
If both parents text positive, there is a 25% chance the puppies will get it.

It is very common and affects many breeds of dogs.
VWD1 is the most common and least severe. Bleeding may be harder to control during surgery, or bleeding may be more than usual when they loose a tooth, or have an open wound.

Both parents must test positive.
If both parents test positive, appx 25% of the puppies could be affected

Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC)

This is a recessive disease requiring 2 copies( 1 from each parent)

EIC is an inherited neuromuscular disorder causing dogs to walk wobbly after strenuous activity. They recover in 5-30 minutes. They are normal with regular activity https://www.pawprintgenetics.com/products/tests/details/99/?breed=41
